Nimali Serengeti
Twelve tented suites in the central Serengeti, on a wildebeest migration route.
About
Nimali Serengeti sits in the central Serengeti close to Makoma Hill, with uninterrupted views across plains dotted with kopjes. Twelve tented suites are arranged along a low ridge, set far enough apart that the only sound between them is wind moving through the acacia. The camp is owned and run by Nimali Africa, who operate sister properties at Tarangire and in the Northern Serengeti. Seronera airstrip is a forty-minute game drive from camp, which usually doubles as the first afternoon's game viewing rather than a transit.
The lodge sits on one of the great wildebeest migration's recognised routes through the central Serengeti. The herds typically pass through from April to June heading north toward the Mara, and again from October to December heading south toward the southern plains. Guests timing those windows often catch wildebeest and zebra column-walking past the camp at dawn. Between the migration windows, the central Serengeti is one of the strongest year-round game areas on the continent, with large buffalo and elephant herds, abundant plains game (impala, topi, eland, hartebeest), and consistent big cat sightings on the kopjes near camp. November and December bring short rains and softer light. April and May bring the long rains and lower visitor numbers across the park.
Each of the twelve tented suites is canvas under thatch with a private verandah looking onto the plains. Interiors run modern and warm: light wood, antique brass detail, generous beds in king or twin configuration. Bathrooms are ensuite with a freestanding tub and an outdoor shower. The main mess overlooks the same plains the tents do, with an infinity pool at the edge of the deck and a fireplace for the evenings when the dark falls fast at altitude. The kitchen serves the chef's home cooking, with private bush lunches and in-tent dining available on request.
Nimali Serengeti runs best for first-time safari guests who want a comfortable central-Serengeti base, honeymooners after something quieter than the bigger Seronera-area lodges, and families travelling with older children. Children of all ages are welcome and the two family suites accommodate small groups.

Signature experiences
Hot-air balloon over the central Serengeti
A pre-dawn lift-off from the plains near camp, drifting low over the kopjes and herds at first light. The balloon lands where the wind takes it, with a bush breakfast set up at the landing point.
Private bush lunch on a nearby kopje
A picnic set up on the rocks above the plains, with shaded seating and the kitchen's home cooking. Timed around the morning game drive so guests come off the drive, eat with the views, and rest before afternoon out.
Scenic helicopter flight over the Serengeti
A guided aerial loop over the kopjes, riverine systems, and the herds. Standard routes run about ninety minutes; longer or custom routes can be arranged through the reservations team.
In-tent spa and the Nimali pamper hamper
Massages and treatments brought to the private verandah of the suite, no need to leave the tent deck. The signature Nimali Pamper Hamper combines body oils and after-game-drive recovery rituals.
Private dinners on request
The kitchen will set a private dinner on the verandah of your suite, in a quiet corner of the deck, or at a bush table set up away from the mess. Booked the day before with the camp manager.

Frequently asked
How many tented suites does Nimali Serengeti have?
Twelve tented suites in total: ten standard suites and two two-bedroom family suites. Each is ensuite with a private verandah, a freestanding bath, and an outdoor shower.
When is the lodge open?
Nimali Serengeti operates year-round. The dry season runs roughly June to November; the short rains arrive in November and December, and the long rains fall in April and May. The wetter months bring lower visitor numbers across the park, which suits travellers wanting a quieter property.
How do guests reach the lodge?
The easiest route is a short bush flight to Seronera airstrip, then a forty-minute game drive to camp (which doubles as the first afternoon's game viewing). By road, Naabi Gate is two hours and the Ngorongoro Crater gate is four hours.
Are families with children welcome?
Yes. Children of all ages are welcome, and two family suites can accommodate small families together. Children remain the responsibility of their parents or guardian throughout the stay. Game drives are tailored for shorter spans on family days.
When does the wildebeest migration pass through Nimali Serengeti?
The lodge sits on one of the migration's recognised routes through the central Serengeti. The herds typically pass through from April to June heading north toward the Mara, and again from October to December heading south toward the southern calving plains. Game viewing remains strong year-round between those windows, particularly for resident big cats and the large buffalo and elephant herds.
