About
About this experience.
The best honeymoon moments on safari are rarely the planned ones. It is the morning your guide switches off the engine beside a sleeping pride and the two of you simply sit there, or the evening you walk back to your tent by lantern light and hear a lion calling somewhere beyond the camp. A Tanzania honeymoon gives you those hours in the bush, then hands you over to the Indian Ocean to do nothing at all.
The classic shape is the northern circuit followed by Zanzibar. Tarangire, with its baobabs and elephant herds along the river, is two to three hours from Arusha. The Ngorongoro Crater, a 260 square kilometre caldera floor ringed by forested walls, is the next step west. Then the Serengeti, where, depending on the month, you might time your stay for the calving at Ndutu or the river crossings in the north. From the Serengeti airstrips, light aircraft fly straight to Zanzibar, so the last leg is a single flight from savannah to sand.
What it is really like depends on where you sleep, and that is where we spend most of our time with couples. In Tarangire, Tarangire Treetops places its suites high on stilts around old trees in a private wildlife area beside the park. On the Ngorongoro rim, Ngorongoro Explorer looks over the crater from the eastern side. In the northern Serengeti, Nimali Mara's glass-fronted suites sit on a kopje close to the Mara River. On Zanzibar, Kilindi on the north west coast has just fifteen domed pavilions, each with its own plunge pool and a dedicated butler; it was originally designed as a private home for a member of ABBA, which explains the sense of seclusion. Quieter still is a private house such as Kholle Villa at Jambiani on the south east coast, where the tide goes far out across the reef.
The honest caveats. Safari mornings start early, often before six, and couples who expect a lie-in every day can feel rushed; we build in at least one slow morning per park. Long drives between parks are tiring, so we often recommend flying one leg. The long rains in April and May are the weakest time for a combined trip, as Zanzibar's wettest month is April. And luxury on safari means remoteness and attentive staff rather than city-hotel glamour: canvas walls, early nights, and the occasional hyena outside.
A private vehicle is the single upgrade that changes a honeymoon most. It lets you stay as long as you like at a sighting and set your own pace. Add a sunrise balloon flight, which can be booked as a private flight for two, and a private dinner in the bush on one night. Every one of those is a separate, optional line on your quote beside the park fees and lodge rates, so you choose the moments that matter to you rather than paying for a bundle you never asked for.
It suits couples who want both wilderness and genuine rest, and who value privacy over a busy resort scene. If you need halal meals, tell your Expert at the start and we confirm the arrangements with each lodge in writing before you travel.
How to structure it
Building it into your trip.
Ten to twelve nights works best. Spend two nights in Tarangire, one or two on the Ngorongoro rim, and three or four in the Serengeti, then fly direct from a Serengeti airstrip to Zanzibar for four or five nights. Safari first, beach last, so you finish rested rather than rushing to an early game drive. If you prefer fewer moves, cut Tarangire and spend longer in a single Serengeti camp. A private vehicle throughout, one balloon morning and one private bush dinner are the three additions couples rarely regret.

Common questions
Questions, answered.
What does a Tanzania honeymoon usually look like?
Most couples spend six to eight nights on the northern circuit, typically Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, then fly from a Serengeti airstrip to Zanzibar for four or five nights on the beach. Safari first, beach last, so the trip ends with rest. We adjust the order around the migration if your dates suit the calving or the river crossings.
When is the best time for a safari and beach honeymoon?
June to October and December to February are the most reliable windows for both halves. The long rains in April and May are the weakest time, especially on Zanzibar, where April is the wettest month. March and November can be lovely but expect more showers. We will tell you honestly if your dates are better suited to one half than the other.
Do we need a private vehicle?
It is not essential, but it is the upgrade that makes the most difference. With a private vehicle and guide you set your own start times, stay as long as you like at a sighting and avoid sharing the day with strangers. On your quote it appears as its own line, so you can see exactly what it adds.
Can you arrange halal food?
Tell your Expert at the start of planning. We raise halal requirements with every lodge and camp on your route and confirm each arrangement in writing before you travel, so there is no guesswork on arrival. Our quotes never include drinks packages, and we can steer you towards properties and experiences that suit a quieter, more private celebration.
How much does a luxury honeymoon in Tanzania cost?
It depends mostly on the camps you choose and the season. Park fees are fixed by the authorities and charged per person per day, while lodge rates vary widely. On Savannah & Sands every line is visible: park fees, each night's accommodation, flights and transfers, and optional extras such as a private balloon flight, so you can trade up or down where it matters to you.
