Gran Meliá Arusha
Polished arrival, mountain views, Red Level service — your gateway to the northern circuit.
About
Gran Meliá Arusha is the rare safari gateway that feels like a destination in its own right. Set within a working coffee plantation on the edge of the city, the hotel rises against the backdrop of Mount Meru, its glass and stone architecture softened by gardens of flowering plants, fig trees, small bridges and water features that guests consistently single out as the soul of the place. For travelers arriving jetlagged before a safari, or returning dust covered and tired after one, it offers something most Arusha properties cannot: genuine arrival, and genuine recovery.
The interiors draw their palette from the surrounding coffee beans and the cultures of the Tanzanian highlands, warm earth tones threaded through spacious rooms with private balconies, many framing uninterrupted views of Mount Meru. The five star experience extends to a serene infinity pool, a full spa and wellness center, and The Grill, a refined steakhouse for those wanting to dine well without leaving the property. Guests on the Red Level tier add personalized butler service and elevated privacy, the closest thing Arusha has to a private wing within a larger hotel.
For Savannah & Sands travelers, the appeal is practical as much as aesthetic. The hotel sits roughly five kilometers from central Arusha and around forty eight kilometers from Kilimanjaro International Airport, making it an ideal first and last night on the Northern Circuit, the calm bookends to days spent in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Spend an evening on a verandah above the coffee rows, let the spa undo the long flight, and begin your safari rested rather than rushed. It is, quite simply, one of the finest places to begin and end a journey through northern Tanzania.

Signature experiences
Red Level, from the moment you land
Red Level is the elevated service floor of the hotel. You check in privately, away from the main desk, with a dedicated lounge for all day refreshments and a personal concierge to help with your safari logistics. The rooms sit higher up and look straight at Mount Meru.
The farm at your table
The hotel grows much of its own produce on an on-site farm, and the all day restaurant, Saba Saba, builds its menus around what was picked that morning. It makes for a genuinely fresh first or last dinner before the bush, with vegetarian and halal friendly options available on request.
The pool and spa under Mount Meru
Wide lawns, a large pool, and a full spa sit at the foot of the mountain. It is the right place to shake off a long flight on the way in, and to ease the dust of the savannah on the way home.
Mountain mornings before the road
The gardens are quiet and well kept, and the highland air is cool at dawn. Take your coffee on the terrace with Mount Meru ahead of you, then meet your driver for the drive into the parks.
