The journey

The boat slows over a patch of water so blue it looks lit from below, and then the reef simply falls away. Along the Pemba Channel the coral walls drop hundreds of metres into the dark, hung with gorgonian fans and patrolled by schooling jacks, and on a good morning a turtle drifts past close enough to see the scratches on its shell. This is the heart of a Pemba Island diving holiday.

We open with one night in Arusha after the long flight into Kilimanjaro, then two short flights, via Zanzibar, carry you to Pemba. The island is green and hilly, folded with clove plantations, and the warm air smells of buds drying on mats along the roadside. On land you can walk the clove farms with a local grower, or step into the Ngezi Forest, where the giant Pemba flying fox roosts in the canopy and the light falls through in narrow shafts. At sea there is Pemba deep wall diving, Misali Island snorkelling and long, barefoot afternoons on white sandbanks that rise with the falling tide and vanish again by evening. None of these, on land or at sea, is part of the trip price, and each is paid locally. The beaches are quiet and the pace is slow.

That is how we work. Pemba is a remote island escape in Tanzania, and remote places reward careful planning, so everything you book is itemised up front: island fees and levies, lodging, flights and transfers, activities, and the total. No hidden markups, no vague package price. This route was planned by our team in Arusha. Once you have booked, a local Expert looks after you on WhatsApp until you fly home.

The long rains fall from April to mid June, so this trip runs from July to March, with calm seas and clear water typically from September to February. Bring a mask, a good book and nowhere else to be.

Every camp on the route is yours to choose. Park fees, lodge nights and vehicle days are itemised on the page before you book. The total you build is the total you pay.
