About

About Dunia Camp.

Dunia Camp sits close to the Moru Kopjes, a cluster of granite boulders in a lesser visited part of the Serengeti. It is tucked between the central Seronera valley and the southern plains around Ndutu, a position Asilia chose so that guests can reach good game and migration country while staying away from the busier parts of the park. Seronera airstrip, the main airstrip in the Serengeti, is about 45 minutes to an hour away by road.

What makes Dunia different is the team. It is the first safari camp in Africa run entirely by women, according to Asilia, and the managers, guides, chefs and housekeepers are all women, many of them from communities where this kind of work has not traditionally been open to them. Guests consistently single out the warmth of the welcome, the farewell songs and the care taken over small things, and the food is cooked fresh in camp from produce bought as locally as possible.

There are eight large guest tents, one of them a family tent with separate bedrooms. Each is raised on a timber deck to give an uninterrupted view of the plains and the Moru Kopjes, with a king size bed under netting, a day bed, a writing desk and a veranda. The bathrooms are en suite with a flush toilet, a basin and a fully plumbed hot shower. Power is solar with a generator as backup, there is USB and battery charging in every tent, and wifi is available.

The mess and dining tent has an outdoor breakfast counter where you can watch the sun come up with your first coffee, and the lounge tent opens onto a broad deck above the grass. Evenings end around the campfire. From camp, game drives reach three quite different areas: the Seronera river, known for its big cats; the Moru Kopjes, where lion and leopard use the boulders and black rhino are present; and the short grass plains to the south where the wildebeest calve early in the year.

Signature experiences

Why guests choose it.

  1. A camp run entirely by women

From the manager to the guides, the whole Dunia team is women. Guests remember the welcome, the songs on arrival and departure, and the attention to detail.

  2. Big cats on the Moru Kopjes

The granite boulders near camp are a favourite of lion and leopard, and this is where the Serengeti's black rhino are found. Go early, when the cats are still on the rocks.

  3. Coffee at sunrise

The mess tent has an outdoor breakfast counter facing east, so the first coffee of the day comes with the light coming up over the plains.

  4. Migration on the doorstep

Dunia sits on the migration route, and the herds pass near camp on their way north and again on their way south, without the vehicle numbers of the busier areas.

Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

How do we get to Dunia Camp?

Most guests fly from Arusha to Seronera airstrip on a scheduled light aircraft, about an hour in the air, then drive about 45 minutes to an hour to camp. On the Game Package that transfer is included; on Full Board it is not. By road from Arusha it is a long day through the Ngorongoro highlands and across the Serengeti plains.

What is the best time to visit?

June to September is dry, with clear game viewing and the camp quiet despite it being peak season. The wildebeest pass near camp heading north roughly between March and June and return south in November and December, and calving happens on the southern plains early in the year.

Is the camp open all year?

In the 2026/27 season the camp is open from 1 June 2026 to 28 February 2027 and from 16 to 31 May 2027, and closed from 1 March to 15 May 2027. For 2027/28 the camp is scheduled to open throughout, from 1 June 2027 to 31 May 2028.

What is the difference between Game Package and Full Board?

Both include all meals, soft drinks, tea and coffee, limited laundry and the Tourism Development Levy. The Game Package adds scheduled shared game drives in open vehicles and transfers to and from Seronera airstrip. Full Board suits guests travelling with their own vehicle and guide, as it includes no drives or transfers.

What costs are paid on top?

Park, camping and concession fees are set by the park authority and paid separately. Asilia also charges a conservation charge of USD 10 per person per night and a compulsory emergency support cover of USD 35 per person, and an extra picnic or in house lunch is USD 25 per person. We show every one of these in your quote.

Can we bring children?

Yes, from age 5; children under 5 are only accepted if the whole camp is booked exclusively with Asilia's approval. Children aged 5 to 18 pay 50% of the adult sharing rate, from 19 they pay the adult rate, and children under 12 must share a tent with an adult. In high season, families of fewer than 5 guests with children aged 5 to 12 must pre book a private vehicle at USD 500 per day in 2026/27 or USD 600 per day in 2027/28, minimum 2 days; in Secret and Green season it is free, subject to availability.

Is there a family tent?

Yes. One of the eight tents is a family tent with separate bedrooms. Triples can also be arranged in the standard tents, so let us know the ages of your children when you enquire.

Is there wifi and power?

There is wifi in camp. Power is solar with a generator as backup, and every tent has USB and battery charging, so cameras and phones are easy to keep topped up.

What happens in a medical emergency?

The camp is remote, so Asilia includes a compulsory emergency support cover with every booking that links the camp to medical professionals and covers flying doctors evacuation to a suitable hospital. It works alongside your own travel insurance, which must include medical and evacuation cover.

Can we do other activities?

Hot air balloon flights over the Serengeti can be arranged separately with the balloon operator. A cultural visit can be arranged for USD 30 per person, and the camp can set up meals out in the bush on request.

Are special diets catered for?

Yes. Let us know about any dietary requirements before you travel and the kitchen will plan around them; the food is cooked fresh in camp.
