Mara Mara Tented Lodge by TWC

Twenty four rooms arranged as two small camps rather than one long row. Each of the two camps has its own pool, lounge and dining house, and the tents stand on raised platforms with private verandas.

June through December only. The camp closes January through May when the migration is in the southern Serengeti. The migration peak in the northern Serengeti is July through October.

By Cessna flight from Arusha Airport, about 1hr 30min, to Kogatende airstrip, then a 30 minute game drive transfer to camp. The drive from Kilimanjaro takes eleven to twelve hours and almost nobody does it.

There is no Family room category at Mara Mara. Standard Triple Rooms handle small family groups; larger families typically need connecting bookings or a different camp.

Full board, soft drinks and the Tourism Development Levy are included. Not included: park fees, concession fees ($59 per adult per night, rising to $70.80 in peak season, and $11.80 per child), the game drive vehicle and guide, soft drinks, flights and gratuities. Park and concession fees are set by the park authority and are added to your trip price at the figures current for your dates.

Mid July through October is the peak window, with August and September the strongest. Mara Mara is 30 minutes from the primary crossing sites, and departures before first light put guests in position for crossings as they commit.

Yes. The camp runs on solar with a generator for back up and the operator states power is available around the clock, with charging points in the tents. Tanzania runs on 230 volts with British style three pin sockets, so bring an adapter for anything you need to charge.

There is Wi Fi in the central areas, the lounge and the dining house, rather than in the tents. Mobile coverage in the far north of the Serengeti is patchy and drops out for long stretches. Treat these days as time away from the phone and tell people at home before you travel.

Arrange flying doctor cover and medical evacuation insurance before you travel, because neither is in the rate. The nearest hospital is at Mugumu, outside the north west of the park, and it handles basic emergency care; anything serious means a flight out, and Kogatende airstrip is close to camp.

Quiet, green and largely yours. The Mara River holds water all year, so zebra, topi, giraffe, buffalo and gazelle stay on, and the lion prides and the leopards along the river lines stay with them. In June, and again in November and December, you will often have a sighting to yourself. The camp is closed January through May.

Yes. From 1 October 2026 visitors entering mainland Tanzania must hold the government inbound travel insurance, 44 USD per adult and valid for up to 92 days, covering emergency medical care, evacuation, repatriation and lost luggage. Children aged 3 to 17 pay half and infants under 3 are free. It is bought online before you fly or on arrival, and residents of Tanzania and of East African and SADC countries are exempt. If you land in Zanzibar first, the Zanzibar policy covers you instead. It is paid by you directly and is not part of your trip price.
