Malaika Mara River Migration Camp

June through October for the Mara River crossings.

Same neighbourhood and the same wildlife window. The Migration Camp is the simpler of the two, with Standard Tents and a lower rate. The Luxury Camp offers Luxury Tents and Scenic View Tents.

By light aircraft to Kogatende airstrip, about 2 hours from Arusha Airport on the scheduled service, then a game drive transfer to camp. By road it is a journey of two days with a night at Ngorongoro or in the central Serengeti, so almost everyone flies.

Full board with mineral water, VAT and TDL. Park entry, concession and camping fees, drinks beyond water, and laundry are charged separately.

August and September for the river crossings.

Wifi reaches the shared areas rather than the tents, and at Kogatende it comes and goes. Most guests end up treating the stay as a few days away from the feed and sending everything at once on the way out.

The camp carries electricity around the clock at 220 volts, on Tanzanian standard sockets, so cameras and phones charge in the tent overnight rather than in a shared box at the office. A hair dryer and an in tent safe are provided.

The camp keeps a first aid kit and the guides carry radios, which is the normal arrangement for a mobile camp this far north. Anything serious means a flight out to Arusha, so travel cover with emergency evacuation is not optional here. It sits in the list of things the rate does not cover.

No. It is a mobile camp pitched at Kogatende for the northern crossings and taken down afterwards, which is why the calendar closes for the rest of the year. Malaika pitches camps in the south for the calving months instead, so a green season trip means one of the operator other sites rather than this one.

Yes. From 1 October 2026 visitors entering mainland Tanzania must hold the government inbound travel insurance, 44 USD per adult and valid for up to 92 days, covering emergency medical care, evacuation, repatriation and lost luggage. Children aged 3 to 17 pay half and infants under 3 are free. It is bought online before you fly or on arrival, and residents of Tanzania and of East African and SADC countries are exempt. If you land in Zanzibar first, the Zanzibar policy covers you instead. It is paid by you directly and is not part of your trip price.
