Mbalageti Serengeti

Three categories: hillside Lodge Rooms open in the busiest months, Tented Chalets with private decks, and two bedroom Exclusive Suites that sleep up to four. A few family chalets take an extra child.

On Mwamweka Hill in the western corridor of the Serengeti, the quieter side of the park, with views over the plains toward Lake Victoria. The Grumeti River runs through the country below.

Most fly to the Grumeti or Kirawira airstrip, around 30 to 45 minutes by game drive from the lodge. Overland it is roughly 2 hours from Seronera in the central Serengeti.

Yes. A small number of family chalets take an extra child, and the western corridor is quieter than the central circuit, which suits families who want space and unhurried sightings.

The great migration usually passes through the western corridor between roughly May and July, with Grumeti crossings later in that window. Resident game is present all year.

Full board with teas, coffees and cake, and internet in public areas. Suites add soft drinks, a mini fridge and satellite television. Park and concession fees are charged separately and shown as itemised lines in your trip price. Game drives are with the operator you choose, and transfers to and from the lodge are not included.

Park entry and concession fees sit outside the rate, along with the Tourism Development Levy of one percent, game drives and other activities, and transfers to and from the lodge. Drinking water and beverages are charged in the tented chalets and the lodge rooms, and laundry, telephone calls and gratuities are settled at the property.

Yes. The contract carries no closed months, so the lodge takes guests in every season. The hillside Lodge Rooms are the exception, opening only in the busiest months, so in the quieter part of the year the choice is between the tented chalets and the two bedroom suites.

Grumeti is the airstrip to aim for, about forty minutes from the lodge by game drive vehicle. Guests routed through Seronera instead face about one hour and thirty minutes on the road west.

From late May into July the herds bank up on the south side of the Grumeti and cross there, a long way from the crowds that gather on the Mara river in the north. Outside that window the riverine forest below the hill still holds elephant, giraffe, hippo and some very large crocodile, so the drives are worth making all year.

Yes. From 1 October 2026 visitors entering mainland Tanzania must hold the government inbound travel insurance, 44 USD per adult and valid for up to 92 days, covering emergency medical care, evacuation, repatriation and lost luggage. Children aged 3 to 17 pay half and infants under 3 are free. It is bought online before you fly or on arrival, and residents of Tanzania and of East African and SADC countries are exempt. If you land in Zanzibar first, the Zanzibar policy covers you instead. It is paid by you directly and is not part of your trip price.
