About
Serengeti Explorer opened in late 2024 on a long-held safari site in the central Serengeti, southeast of Seronera airstrip. Twenty contemporary rooms, a Savannah Suite, and a Family Room are arranged around a quiet pool and a private dining pavilion. The architecture is restrained and design-led: clean lines, neutral palette, large windows onto the plains. It sits apart from the older 1930s-style camps in the same area, offering a more current and design-conscious base in central Serengeti.
The central Serengeti is the one zone of the park that holds resident wildlife year-round. The Seronera River Valley to the north is Africa's premier leopard hotspot, the surrounding granite kopjes hold resident lion prides, and cheetah hunt the open plains to the east. The Great Migration also passes through this region twice a year — northward in April-June and southward in October-December — making the central Serengeti an unusually flexible base for migration tracking.
The accommodation runs in three categories: Savannah Room (the main rooms, available as Single, Double, Twin, or Triple), Savannah Suite (a single per-unit larger room), and Family Room (a per-unit family configuration for up to four). All rooms have private decks looking onto the plains, en-suite bathrooms, and the kind of contemporary fixtures that read as confident rather than overdone. Rhino tracking on foot is offered as a half-day add-on, an unusual experience in the central park.
Best for design-conscious safari travellers who want a more current property than the classic-style camps in the region, families using the Family Room or the Savannah Suite, and first-time guests who want central Serengeti's year-round wildlife on a single 3 to 4 night booking.
Access is by Cessna flight from Arusha to Seronera airstrip (1hr 15min including the road transfer JRO to Arusha Airport), then a 30-minute game-drive transfer to camp.

Rhino tracking on foot
Half-day guided walk in a protected zone where the central Serengeti's small black rhino population is being monitored. A rare on-foot wildlife encounter.
Boma dinner under the stars
Open-air dinner in the lodge's traditional boma, hosted around a central fire. Included in the standard rate.
Hot-air balloon safari (Mar to Oct)

Seronera Central Serengeti
Fly-in: Approximately 2hr 30min total: 1hr JRO to Arusha Airport (ARK) by road, then a 1hr 15min Cessna Caravan from ARK to Seronera airstrip, then a 30-minute game-drive transfer to camp.
Drive: Approximately 8 hours total: drive route via Arusha, Karatu, the Ngorongoro highlands, and the western corridor. Bush flight is the standard route.
